Beginning on Monday, Aug. 22, prime contractor Swank Construction Company LLC., of New Kensington, will begin bridge rehabilitation work on a three year project on Route 3039 over Conemaugh River in the City of Johnstown, Cambria County.
Beginning Monday, the contractor will place a 17.7 mile car detour that will follow Route 3039 (Benshoff Hill Road), Route 271, Route 3044 (Washington Street) and Route 56/403. A separate signed truck detour will also be in place.
The work on this project consists of the rehabilitation of the main span truss, bridge deck, and sidewalk and replacing the four approach spans with three new spans. This project also includes hydrodemolition and resurfacing of the main span bridge deck along with replacing the existing approach roadway on both the north and south approaches.
The work on this $5 million project is weather dependent and is expected to be completed by June 2013.

Update 3-23-2012
Construction season number two will begin on the 4th Avenue Bridge, in the City of Johnstown, Cambria County.
Beginning on Monday, March 26, the contractor Swank Construction Corp. will begin work that will require minor delays under daylight traffic control. The contractor will begin abutment work as well as continuing steel repairs on the bridge. Repair work will also begin on the existing sidewalk.
During sidewalk repairs, a Pedestrian Shuttle will be in place. This will run between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday- Friday and 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Pick up times will not exceed 30 minutes. Locations the shuttle stops at include: the Intersection of 4th Ave and Power Street, the intersection of Garvey Place and Iron Street.
A detour will be placed in early April for additional work on the bridge that will require it’s closure. PennDOT will make an announcement before that work will begin.
All work on this $5 million project is expected to be completed by June 2013.

Detour to go into Place for the 4th Avenue Bridge
Hollidaysburg – Beginning on Monday, April 9, prime contractor Swank Construction Company LLC., of New Kensington will re-instate the 17.7 mile car detour so work can continue on the 4th Avenue Bridge, in the City of Johnstown, Cambria County.
On Monday, the signed car detour will follow Route 3039 (Benshoff Hill Road), Route 271, Route 3044 (Washington Street) and Route 56/403. A separate signed truck detour will also be in place.
