Garmantown residents will soon be enjoying a safer and smoother ride in Susquehanna Township thanks to the replacement of two structurally deficient bridges on Route 219 that will begin Monday, March 19.
The contractor will begin work under short-term flagging operations. They anticipate long term single lane restrictions to be in place in early April. Once this occurs traffic will be reduced to a single lane using temporary traffic signals. Minor delays are possible.
The contract for $2.8 million was awarded to HRI, Inc. of State College, Centre County. Overall work on this contract will consist of replacement of both the Garmantown North and Garmantown South bridges, roadway approach improvements, drainage, guiderail, signage and pavement marking improvements.
All roadway and bridge work is expected to be completed by early November of this year with the exception of an epoxy based surface treatment which will be completed in the summer of 2013. The entire contract has a completion date of Mid-June 2013. |
