Scenic lookout to close temporarily for Route 15 safety project construction

Montoursville

Weather permitting, the contractor beginning the safety improvement project on the Montgomery Pike section of Route 15 near South Williamsport will begin setting temporary concrete barrier on the job this Wednesday, April 11.

A couple of things will happen to affect motorists as a result of placing the temporary barrier. First, traffic will be reduced to a single lane in each direction, northbound and southbound in the work zone. Secondly, because of the placement and height of the barrier, along with the single-lane condition for northbound traffic, it would not be safe to keep the scenic overlook open to traffic. There would be inadequate sight distance for vehicles leaving the overlook parking lot. So, for safety’s sake, the lookout will be closed long-term through the majority of the summer, effective Wednesday.

Motorists are advised to stay alert when approaching and passing through the work zone, especially this Wednesday as traffic patterns are altered for the safety improvement project construction.

This is a two-year, $10.7 million project with Glenn O. Hawbaker, Inc. as the prime contractor.
