A PennDOT bridge crew in Bradford County will begin a bridge superstructure (deck and beams) replacement project on Checkerville Road in Springfield Township this Wednesday, June 20.
The bridge (SR 4027) over Bucks Creek was built in 1973 and is 22 feet in length. It is located approximately one mile south of Checkerville or 3.8 miles north of Springfield Road, between Ross Road and Elliot Road.
The existing steel I-beams and timber bridge deck will be replaced with precast concrete deck beams, a waterproof membrane and blacktop overlay.
During the estimated four weeks of construction (starting Wednesday), the bridge will be closed. A detour route will be established using Ross Road and Patterson Road in both Springfield and South Creek townships.
When the work is completed, the bridge should not have to be closed for at least 50 years. Although routine bridge maintenance will take place in that time period, any bridge closure or restriction would be minimal, barring any unforeseen events.
