USGS to add technology at East Bloomsburg Bridge

A team from the United States Geological Survey (US Department of the Interior) will be in Bloomsburg (Columbia County) Monday, September 19 to begin installation of water gauging instrumentation on the East Bloomsburg Bridge over the North Branch of the Susquehanna River.

The team, including hydraulic engineer John W. Fulton, will be installing a microwave sensor capable of transmitting real-time stream flow and water velocity data from the existing USGS gauging station building located near the Bloomsburg Airport.

The team anticipates needing up to three days to complete the installation and testing of the system.

Pedestrian traffic on the bridge will not be impacted by the work, and the crew will use traffic cones to cordon off the work zone. Motorists are asked to be alert to the work zone and slow down while crossing the bridge early next week.
