Interstate Work on Technology Upgrades Starts Tuesday

Clearfield – PennDOT District 2 will start a project next week to complete the construction and relocation of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices on
I-80 and I-99. Work will begin on Tuesday, July 31.

Completion of the ITS system will enhance PennDOT’s ability to provide up-to-date information to roadway customers about weather conditions, roadway construction, and special events/circumstances.

Work includes construction of 16 dynamic message signs (DMS) with speed detection at each site, closed circuit television cameras, upgrades to the Highway Advisory Radio System (HARS), and miscellaneous items.

Work will begin on I-80 eastbound near the Woodland/123 interchange in Clearfield County. Work will then continue on I-80 eastbound through Centre and Clinton counties. Crews will eventually make their way to I-80 westbound and I-99 in Centre County.

No traffic disruptions or lane restrictions are planned at this time. Drivers are reminded to proceed with caution and be alert for crews working along the shoulder of the roadway.

The contractor on this $5.1 million project is Bruce and Merrilees Electric Company of New Castle. Work is expected to be complete by October.
