PennDOT Places Speed Display Sign in Juniata County

Clearfield – Motorists in Thompsontown Borough, Juniata County, will be reminded to obey the posted speed limit as they travel on Route 2009 (Pine Street). PennDOT recently placed a radar-controlled speed display sign in this area to aid in curbing a common type of aggressive driving.

The sign is located north of Route 333 (Main Street), facing southbound traffic. The speed display sign uses radar to determine the speeds of oncoming traffic. Vehicle speeds are then posted on the lighted section of the sign. The posted speed limit in this area of Route 2009 is 25 miles per hour.

The speed display sign will remain on location for about four weeks.

Speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors are among the leading causes of crashes and fatalities in Pennsylvania. Other aggressive driving behaviors include running stop signs or red lights, passing illegally and tailgating.

Aggressive driving behaviors were listed as a crash cause in more than 47 percent of Juniata County crashes in 2012.
