Public Plans Display for Interstate 70 Widening
South Strabane Township, Washington County
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announces the public plans display for the presentation of the Interstate 70 Widening project located in South Strabane Township, Washington County on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The plans display will be held at the South Strabane Fire Station No. 2 located at 172 Oak Springs Road.

PennDOT is in the process of preparing preliminary design for the Interstate 70 (I-70) between I-79 North Junction (Exit 18) and the Beau Street (Exit 20) project. This project is the first phase of the Department’s plan to provide three lanes of traffic in each direction along I-70 between the I-79 North and South Junctions. The project involves the widening of I-70 from two lanes to three lanes in each direction to improve capacity along the interstate, the widening of the I-70 westbound ramp to I-79 northbound to two lanes at North Junction (Exit 18) and the reconstruction of the Murtland Avenue Interchange (Exit 19) to eliminate the substandard cloverleaf interchange. The Department is proposing a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at Murtland Avenue (Exit 19). The Beau Street Interchange (Exit 20) at the eastern end of this project will remain as it currently exists. The Department has retained the firm of Gannett Fleming Inc. to conduct the preliminary engineering design.
