DISMANTLING OF BRIDGE IN ROBINSON AND BOLIVAR POSTPONED

Indiana County (August 16) – The dismantling of the original bridge that carried Route 259 over the Conemaugh River in Robinson, Indiana County, and Bolivar, Westmoreland County, has been postponed until the afternoon of Thursday, August 17. The postponement is due to the unavailability of necessary equipment.

The bridge was originally scheduled to be dismantled Wednesday, August 16.

Crews will use a shearing machine to cut the bridge from its abutments and then dismantle the structure.

The 310-foot riveted Warrant Truss was constructed in 1937 and was used until July 20, 2006, when a new bridge was opened 1,000 feet upstream. The new structure, costing $4.8 million to construct, is a four-span, pre-cast concrete girder structure 430 feet in length.
