PENNDOT ANNOUNCES ROUTE 436 MARGIOTTI BRIDGE PM BIDS OPENED



Construction will begin next summer

Jefferson County, PA (Nov. 16) - PennDOT Engineering District 10 is pleased to announce that construction bids for the Route 436 Margiotti Bridge PM (Preventative Maintenance) project in Punxsutawney Borough, Jefferson County, were opened on Thursday, November 10, 2005.

The apparent low bidder for the project is Francis J. Palo of Clarion PA, with a bid amount of $472,669. Three bids were received for the project.

The bids, opened in Harrisburg, will be reviewed to ensure all necessary specifications are met; and then the contract itself will be awarded to the low bidder who adequately meets those specifications.

Construction is expected begin in summer 2006.
The project will make improvements to the bridge including new bituminous and membrane waterproofing, deck joint replacement, spot painting, minimal approach paving, and concrete deck, pre-stressed concrete beam, structural steel, and substructure concrete repairs.

Existing approach guide rail will also be replaced.

To allow the project to be completed faster, minimize delays on the traveling public, and increase worker safety, the bridge will be closed to traffic beginning on July 10 through August 25, 2006. The official detour for northbound traffic will be Route 119 through downtown Punxsutawney to Route 36 back to Route 436. Southbound traffic will follow the same detour in the opposite direction.
