PENNDOT ANNOUNCES ROUTE 949 CORSICA BRIDGE PM BIDS OPENED

KEEPING GOOD BRIDGES GOOD

Jefferson County, PA (May 15)– PennDOT Engineering District 10 is pleased to announce that construction bids for the Route 949 Corsica Bridge Preventive Maintenance (PM) project in Union Township, Jefferson County, were opened Thursday, April 27, 2006, in Harrisburg.

Two bids were received for the project that will paint the existing bridge superstructure, waterproof the bridge deck, repair drainage and deteriorated pier caps and repave the bridge surface and approaches. The bridge carries Route 949 over Interstate 80.

The apparent low bidder for the project is the Francis J. Palo of Clarion PA, with a bid amount of $665,072.

The bids, opened in Harrisburg, will be reviewed to ensure all necessary specifications are met; and then the contract itself will be awarded to the low bidder who adequately meets those specifications.

Construction is expected to begin, weather permitting, six-to-eight weeks after the bid opening. The project is expected to take one construction season to complete
