PENNDOT ANNOUNCES OPENING OF ONE SOUTHBOUND LANE ON NEW MAIN STREET VIADUCT
Butler, Pa. (November 6) - PennDOT Engineering District 10 is announcing that the left southbound lane of the new Main Street Viaduct will open to traffic the afternoon of Tuesday, November 7, 2006.
Motorists are cautioned to be aware of changing traffic patterns when the lane opens.
Traffic in both directions has been using the lanes designed for northbound travel since the first side of the bridge was opened in October 2005. Only vehicles traveling north will be permitted in the northbound lanes after the southbound lane opens Tuesday.
The fourth and final lane of the bridge, which will also carry southbound traffic, will be opened during a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the project at 1 p.m. Thursday, November 9.
Motorists are also cautioned that traffic on the northbound side of the bridge may be temporarily reduced to one lane after the opening of the southbound lane to allow crews to paint new lines on the surface.
