PENNDOT ANNOUNCES START OF WORK ON DOWNTOWN PUNXSUTAWNEY 3R PROJECT

Lane reductions expected

Jefferson County, PA (August 29) - PennDOT Engineering District 10 is announcing that work will begin Monday, September 11, 2006, weather permitting, on the Downtown Punxsutawney 3R (rehabilitation, restoration and resurfacing) project along Route 36 in Punxsutawney, Jefferson County.

As part of the $674,000 project, Route 36 (West Main and West Mahoning streets) will be milled and repaved from Route 436 (Lincoln Way) to Route 119 (Hampton Avenue). Work will be performed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
During the first stage of the project, street parking will not be permitted along Route 36 between Jefferson and Walnut streets and between Foundry Street and Davis Alley. The parking restriction is expected to last about two weeks, weather permitting.

Delays are expected. Traffic will be reduced to single-lane, alternating use during work hours. Flag crews will control traffic flow, and variable message boards will be used along routes 119 and 36 to inform motorists of changing road patterns and conditions. Motorists are asked to use caution, stay alert and be patient when traveling through work zones.

The contractor for the project is Quaker Sales Corporation of Johnstown. Work is scheduled to be completed by Friday, October 13, 2006.
