SR 268/SR 1038 West Kittanning Intersection Project Update

Indiana – PennDOT Engineering District 10 is advising motorists that traffic flow will be converted back to the old pattern on State Route (SR) 268/State Route 1038 (Butler Road) intersection for the winter shutdown and carryover phase.

In early November, the SR 268 and SR 1038 (Butler Road) intersection and Northern Avenue will be reopened to the old traffic pattern movements for the winter months.

Due to constructability problems, extra large signal pole fabrication time, and weather limitations for paving asphalt, it will not be possible to finish the project in the 2011 season. Work will progress throughout the winter months, weather permitting.

Beginning Spring 2012 through the summer, there will be two, three-day weekend closures to rebuild both the SR 1038 (Butler Road) leg and the SR 268 (Franklin Road) leg. The closures will be in place between Friday 8 pm and Monday 6 am with posted detours.

The project will have the final pavement course placed, the new signal installed and the new intersection will be opened. Northern Avenue, South Belmont and Nixon Streets will be rebuilt. The old roadway and remaining box culvert will be removed; and the Whiskey Run realignment will be completed, along with the seeding and planting of shrubs.

This $2,551,268 intersection project is being completed by Plum Contracting of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, and is expected to be completed in 2012.
