PENNDOT’S CLARION COUNTY CREWS PREPARE FOR WINTER

Winter Readiness Drill

INDIANA, Pa. – PennDOT Engineering District 10 is pleased to announce that the Clarion County Maintenance crews will be prepared when Mother Nature brings her best this winter.

To ensure all equipment is in working order for the upcoming winter season, PennDOT’s Clarion County Maintenance facility in Shippenville, PA, will conduct its annual inspection of equipment starting at 9 a.m., Thursday, October, 23, 2008. All winter maintenance equipment will be displayed and inspected to ensure readiness. Media representatives are invited to attend the inspection.

Clarion County PennDOT is responsible for maintaining 469 miles of State roadway, which correlates to 997 lane miles needing snow and ice removal during each winter event.

The county has already stored 8,600 tons of salt and 22,000 tons of anti-skid materials at its five stockpile locations strategically located throughout the county to provide effective service to motorists.

This winter, the Clarion County facility will have 58 full-time equipment operators and 18 temporary equipment operators on staff to handle its fleet of 26 plow trucks, three graders, six loaders, three anti-icing trucks and one snow blower.

Motorists with winter maintenance concerns are asked to call 1-800-FIX ROAD to contact their nearest county maintenance office. The Clarion County Maintenance Office will be staffed 24 hours a day beginning Saturday, November 1, 2008.
