Indiana – PennDOT Engineering District 10 is advising motorists that a detour will be in place between October 16, 2010 and October 23, 2010 on State Route (SR) 3003 (Tunnelton Road) as part of the Tunnelton Bridge replacement project over the Conemaugh River. The project is located just south of Tunnelton on the Conemaugh River in Conemaugh Township in Indiana County and Loyalhanna Township in Westmoreland County.
SR 3009 (Tunnelton Road) will be closed from approximately 1000 feet north of the bridge in Indiana County. In addition, Pump Station and Tunnelton Roads in Loyalhanna Township, Westmoreland County, will be closed near the bridge for approach work. The closures will begin Saturday, October 16, 2010 and end Saturday, October 23, 2010.
The detour includes SR 3003 (Tunnelton Road) to SR 3002 (Saltsburg Road) to SR 3007 (Clarksburg Road) to SR 286 to SR 981 to Tunnelton Road, Westmoreland County.
While Tunnelton Road is detoured, the bridge will be demolished by blasting. The demolition is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, 2010. A safety perimeter will be established and the river will be closed to all traffic at the Tunnelton Bridge location beginning October 20, 2010, and will re-open on October 22, 2010.
This is a $3.29 million bridge replacement project with work being completed by Trumbull Corporation of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County. The bridge is expected to be completed by mid-November with work finishing in March 2011.
