Additional Parking Restrictions Go Into Effect
Indiana County, PA - PennDOT Engineering District 10 is advising motorists, pedestrians and merchants that tree removal for the Indiana Pedestrian Safety Project in Indiana Borough, Indiana County, will take place on Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2009 (weather permitting).
Motorists and merchants are advised that parking will be restricted on the north side of Philadelphia Street from Ninth Street to Tenth Street for these two days only. The parking restrictions on the south side of Philadelphia that went into effect on Monday will remain for several weeks as workers from Dominion Gas Company and PA American Water upgrade underground utility lines. Motorists and pedestrians should use extreme caution when traveling in the area.
The contractor for the $1,075,682.60 project, S.E.T., Inc., of Lowellville, Ohio, is scheduled to begin construction upon completion of the utility relocations. The project will reconstruct approximately one block of Philadelphia Street between Ninth and Tenth Streets in Indiana Borough. The project includes new concrete sidewalks, pedestrian lighting, Americans with Disabilities (ADA) compliant curb ramps, relocation of overhead utility lines to underground, and landscaping improvements.
A formal groundbreaking is being planned for early April and the project is scheduled to be completed by the Fall of 2009.
The project is part of the Governor's Home Town Streets initiative that encourages the reinvestment in and redevelopment of downtowns.
