Weekend Closure on State Route 268 for Work on State Route 268/State Route 1038 Intersection Project in Armstrong County

Indiana – PennDOT Engineering District 10 is advising motorists that the west leg of the State Route 268 /SR 1038 (Butler Road) intersection project will close the weekend of May 18 through May 21. The closure is necessary for work on the SR 268/SR 1038 Intersection realignment project in West Kittanning, Armstrong County.

Beginning, Friday, May 18, at 8 pm, SR 268 will close on the west leg of the SR 268/SR 1038 intersection up the hill towards the mall until Monday, May 21 at 6 am. Belmont South Street will also be closed for this duration. The road will close for rebuilding the west leg of the intersection.

The posted detour for SR 268 north traffic is SR 422 across the Judge Graff Bridge to Business 422 to SR 1038 and for SR 268 south traffic SR 1038 to Business 422 to SR 422 across the Judge Graff Bridge and back onto SR 268.

After the weekend closure the new intersection will be opened to full traffic with the newly installed signal controlling traffic movements in the intersection. The old multi-legs of this intersection will be closed. Northern Avenue will be posted as right-in and right-out only.

This intersection realignment and upgrade project converts the multi-leg intersection located at SR 268 and SR 1038 (Butler Road) into a T-intersection. The project included the removal of two box culverts and installation of a new box culvert over Whiskey Run, stream realignment, traffic signal installation, sanitary sewer relocation, and other construction at the intersection.

This $2,551,268 intersection project is being completed by Plum Contracting of Greensburg, Westmoreland County, and is expected to be completed in mid-November.
