 | Welcome to the Clearfield County PennDOT information page. Clearfield County was created in 1804 from parts of Huntingdon and Lycoming Counties and named for Clearfield Creek. The creek’s name alluded to openings or “cleared fields” made by the large number of bison in the area at that time. Clearfield County is located in the center of Pennsylvania with direct access to major markets in the Northeastern United States and the Midwest via U.S. Interstate 80, which runs directly through the county. There are six exits off U.S. Interstate 80 in Clearfield County. The county has a land area of 1,147.4 square miles and a total of 2,074 public roads miles. These roads encompass 52 municipalities, including 21 boroughs, 30 townships and one city. The County’s population in 2009 was estimated at 83,324- 46% urban and 54% rural. The average annual precipitation within Clearfield County is 42 inches and the average annual snowfall is 60 inches. |

Clearfield County Maintenance District is headquartered at 1905 Washington Avenue, Hyde, Pennsylvania. In addition to main office, we have 13 other stockpile facilities that are strategically located throughout the county in an effort to provide quick response to emergencies and enhance our operational efficiency. These strategic stockpile sites are located at Glen Hope, Bells Landing, Patchinville, Kylertown, Keewaydin, Woodland, Rockton, DuBois, Chestnut Grove, Hyde, Houtzdale, Jeffries and Philipsburg.
The PennDOT, Clearfield County Maintenance District consists of 807 miles of roadway and 406 bridges. It is maintained by a full-time workforce of 126 permanent employees (77 Equipment Operators; 1 Highway Signman; 14 Foremen; 10 Mechanics; 1 Welder; 3 Maintenance Repairmen; 1 Tradesman Helper; 2 Mechanic Supervisors; 1 Clerical Supervisor; 7 clerical employees; 2 technical employees; 7 Managers). Additionally, the County employees 37 seasonal employees. The labor force is represented by Council 85, Local 2603, Local 2119, Local 2581, and Local 2368 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSME). |

Our equipment fleet includes 49 dump trucks, 15 front-end loaders, four graders, 5 backhoes, 1 tracked excavator, 2 wheeled excavators, and many other types of specialized equipment.
