The Upper Merion Transportation Authority (UMTA) will widen Henderson Road between Monroe Boulevard and Shoemaker Road in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County beginning Monday (June 11), the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced.

During construction, Henderson Road through traffic will be restricted to one lane and controlled by flagging from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Monday through Saturday (June 11-16) Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area.

The UMTA will widen Henderson Road between Queens Drive and Saulin Boulevard to provide two travel lanes and a center turn lane. Left turn lanes will be provided at the intersections of Church Lane and Hansen Access Road. A sidewalk will be provided on the west side of Henderson Road. In addition, Henderson Road will be milled and resurfaced between Saulin Boulevard and Monroe Boulevard to accommodate two travel lanes in each direction.

Henderson Road will remain open during construction with one travel lane open in each direction during daytime hours and one lane during overnight hours.

The UMTA will complete the work under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit. The entire project is expected to be completed by June 2013.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major highways before heading out.
