District Services - Municipal Services - Liquid Fuels

The Municipal Services Unit administers the Liquid Fuels Tax Funds with local governments and counties. This unit has a very close working relationship with local government officials and assists them in the administration of these funds on road, bridge, and street systems. The amount of a municipality's allocation is based on its population and miles of roads on their approved Liquid Fuels Inventory. To be placed on the inventory a road must have minimum of 33 feet right-of-way in a township and 16 feet in a borough. The "cartway" (driveable surface) must be a minimum width of 16 feet, and the road must be a minimum of 250 feet in length. If the road is a dead end, it must have cul de sac (turn-around) at the end with a minimum 40 feet radius.

To continue to receive Liquid Fuels funds on roads that are currently on the municipality's inventory, the road must be maintained in such a condition that it can be driven safely at 15 mph in a normal passenger vehicle.
