Current ARLE Programs


This is how the Automated Red Light Enforcement (ARLE) works within the City of Philadelphia:


First Image: Photograph is captured from the rear approach showing: the scene of the violation including the back of the violating vehicle in front of the violation line; one or more visible red light signals; and a clear image of the license plate of the offending vehicle, all from the single, base image.

Second Image: Photograph shot is also captured from the rear approach showing: the scene of the violation including the back of the violating vehicle after the rear axle has crossed the stop line and the vehicle has illegally entered the intersection; one or more visible red light signals; and a clear image of the license plate of the offending vehicle, all from the single, base image.



Funding Program

PennDOT's ARLE funding program was established in 2010, with the intent of using the extra revenue generated by ARLE to help fund transportation projects focusing on safety throughout Pennsylvania. For more information regarding the ARLE funding program, please see the links below:
