SECTION 802 — TOPSOIL FURNISHED AND PLACED
802.1 DESCRIPTION
— This work is the furnishing and placing of topsoil from outside the project, as indicated.
802.2 MATERIAL
— Section 801.2 and containing not less than 2.0% nor more than 10.0% organic matter, as determined in accordance with AASHTO-Tl94. Certify as specified in Section 106.03(b)3.
Provide topsoil meeting the following grading analysis:

Obtain topsoil from outside the right of way, where the soil quality has proven ability to grow crops. Prior to topsoil removal, obtain acceptance for the quality of the source, for the depth of the topsoil to be removed, and for the method of removal.
Recondition areas from which topsoil was obtained, as specified in Section 105.14.
802.3 CONSTRUCTION —
(a) Preparation of Areas to be Topsoiled.
Grade the areas to be covered by topsoil. Using acceptable methods, loosen soil to a depth of 2 inches before placing the topsoil. Remove stones and other foreign material 2 inches or larger in any dimension. Remove and satisfactorily dispose of unsuitable and surplus material.
(b) Placing and Spreading Topsoil.
Place topsoil on the prepared areas and, unless otherwise indicated, spread and compact to a 4-inch uniform depth

1 1/2 inches. Compact with a roller weighing not over 120 pounds per foot width of roller or by other acceptable methods, as directed. Remove overdepth topsoil, unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. Do not place topsoil in a wet or frozen condition.
802.4 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
— Cubic Yard
Measured in the hauling vehicle at the delivery point, as specified in Section 109.01(b). Overdepth topsoil may be left in place, at no cost to the Department.
