ECTION 658 — CONCRETE SHOULDERS
658.1 DESCRIPTION —
This work is construction of plain cement concrete shoulders, of the type indicated, on a prepared surface.

Joint Sealing Material — Section 705.4(a), (b), or (d)
Curing and Protecting Covers — Section 711.1
Concrete Curing Compound — Section 711.2(a)
Concrete Admixtures — Section 711.3

Deformed and Plain Bar Dowels — Section 709.1(a)
Premolded Expansion Joint Filler — Section 705.1
Longitudinal Joint Material — Section 705.2
658.3 CONSTRUCTION —
As shown on the Standard Drawings and as follows:
(a) Aggregate Base.
Section 350.3
(b) Concrete.
As specified in the applicable parts of Section 501.3. Form the rumble corrugations. Texture the shoulders transversely, to a minimum surface relief of 0.025-inch (uniform striations approximately 1/16-inch in depth).
(c) Joints.
Form or saw transverse contraction joints in the shoulder, perpendicular to the concrete surface and in a line either perpendicular to the edge of the shoulder or at the same skew as the adjacent pavement joints, as specified in Section 501.3(h).
Time the sawing of joints as specified in Section 501.3(h).
Seal joints as specified in Section 501.3(n). Use the same seal or sealant in transverse joints in concrete shoulders as was used in the roadway transverse joints.
