Outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel Closure Canceled for July 11-14 Weekend

PennDOT District 11 is announcing the outbound Squirrel Hill Tunnel closure planned for the July 11-14 weekend has been postponed.

Overnight single lane closures will continue for the weekend of July 11-14.

The outbound tunnel closure will be rescheduled at a later date.

No work will occur Thursday-Saturday nights, July 3-5. An overnight single lane closure will occur in the outbound tunnel Sunday night, July 6 from 10 p.m. to Monday morning at 6:30 a.m.

The $49.5 million project to rehabilitate the Squirrel Hill Tunnel includes updating electrical, lighting, air control and ventilation systems, structural repairs to the walls and arched ceiling, tile repairs, installation of a water line and other improvements. Additionally, rehabilitation work on the bridge that carries the Parkway East over Commercial Street will be performed as part of the tunnel project. Expansion dam on ramps at the Edgewood Swissvale interchange (Exit 77) will also be replaced.
