PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists a single lane closure on northbound I-79 in the area of the bridge over the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Marshall Township, Allegheny County, will occur on Thursday night, Oct. 22, and this upcoming weekend, Oct. 24-26.
The northbound left lane will be closed from 7 p.m. on Thursday to 6 a.m. on Friday and from noon on Saturday, Oct. 24, continuously through 6 a.m. on Monday. Crews will be cutting the bridge deck Thursday to prepare for removal and replacement this weekend. New expansion dam installation will also occur. Two northbound lanes will remain open shifted onto the right shoulder. The off-ramp to Route 19 will remain open, although the left lane up to the ramp will be closed.
The I-79 bridge work is part of a $7.8 million contract with the Brayman Construction Company of Saxonburg, PA, for improvements on four other bridge structures on I-79 in Allegheny County. The overall project will conclude in late 2009.
PennDOT advises motorists to use caution, slow down and expect changing traffic patterns and delays when traveling through the area. Work zone safety is everyone’s responsibility. PennDOT also reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major roadways before traveling. |
