The Bureau of Aviation was established in 1970 as part of the Department of Transportation and assumed the powers and duties of the Aeronautics Commission from the Department of Military Affairs. The Bureau performs the functions and duties regarding all activities involved in airport construction and maintenance, aircraft maintenance, commonwealth flight operations, aviation law enforcement, grant oversight and airport licensing and inspections.
