PennDOT is bound by Federal and State law and regulations to consider the effects of its actions on all aspects of the environment for transportation related projects. Cultural resources (archaeological and historic properties) are covered under this umbrella. Due to these laws and regulations, and to our commitment to the design, construction, and maintenance of a transportation network that lies gently on the land, PennDOT is the single largest source of public sector archaeological and historic resources investigations in Pennsylvania.
