HOW MUCH PERSONAL LEAVE DO I EARN?
A.
Personal Leave entitlement is based on your leave service credit at the
beginning of the leave calendar year
. If you are a new employee with zero pay periods of leave service credit, you will earn one personal leave day. If your leave service credit is one pay period through one year, you will earn two personal leave days; one each half calendar year. If your leave service credit is one year and one pay period or greater, you will earn four personal leave days; one each calendar quarter. You must work 20 days during each earning period to be eligible to earn a personal leave day.

IF I HAVE SCHEDULED PAID LEAVE DURING AN OFFICE CLOSING, WILL I BE CHARGED LEAVE?
A.
Yes - Employees on paid leave during an office closing will be charged with the appropriate amount of leave. However, if the office closing is pre-announced, employees may cancel their leave by the end of the shift prior to the office closing. FOR EXAMPLE: An employee has requested 7.5 hours of annual leave and an early dismissal was announced to allow employees to leave 2 hours prior to their normal quitting time. The employee would be charged 7.5 hours of annual leave.

HOW MUCH SICK LEAVE WILL I EARN THIS YEAR?

Employees earn 5% of all regular hours paid. This equals 13 days per leave calendar year for full time employees. Leave is credited each pay period. Employees who work 75 hours per pay period earn 3.75 hours of sick leave each pay period. Employees who work 80 hours per pay period earn 4.0 hours of sick leave each pay period.

HOW MUCH LEAVE CAN I CARRY OVER FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT?

Employees can carry over 45 days of Annual leave and 300 days of Sick leave.
Personal leave does not carry over from one year to the next

IF I LEAVE COMMONWEALTH EMPLOYMENT, WILL I BE PAID FOR MY ACCRUED LEAVE?
A.
All accrued annual and personal leave will be paid to separating employees. A percentage of accrued sick leave will be paid to employees upon a qualified retirement. Eligibility for payment is as follows: 1) employee is age 60 with at least five years of credited service; 2) disability retirement with at least five years of service; 3) retirement at any age with at least 25 years of credited service; 4) death in service with at least 7 years of service. Percentage of sick leave payment is based on the number of days of accumulated sick leave and partial days are not paid. 0 – 100 days = 30% with a maximum of 30 days paid; 101 – 200 days = 40% with a maximum of 80 days paid; 201 – 300 days = 50% with a maximum of 150 days paid; over 300 days (in the last year of employment) = 100% of days over 300 with a maximum of 13 days. The maximum sick leave payment will be 163 days if the employee has accumulated 313 days of sick leave upon retirement.
