 | Emergency Movement Authorization |
 | Consistent with Section 4964 of the PA Vehicle Code and PennDOT Regulations (67 PA CODE, Section 179.12), authorization for an overweight or oversize movement MAY be granted before obtaining a Permit, in the event of an emergency or accident affecting the PUBLIC safety or convenience. A permit must be applied for within 72 hours of the operation or movement. |
 | PennDOT authorization may be granted:
1) During normal business hours, by contacting the Engineering District Office nearest to the point of entry or point of origin in PA, or
2) At any time, by applying for an overweight or oversize Permit via the WEB using APRAS. APRAS is operational 365 days a year, throughout the day (except during nightly batch processing to update databases that support APRAS). WEB based applications are the quickest, most efficient and safest method. Approximately 80% of WEB based applications will be processed within one minute, on average. |
 | PA State Police authorization may be granted to a Motor Carrier during hours when PennDOT Permit Offices are closed and when an Emergency Permit cannot be obtained via the WEB using APRAS, by calling (717) 346-5348 and providing satisfactory information on the proposed move, including the nature of the emergency, the vehicle(s) to be permitted, route of travel, and the Motor Carrier’s Federal Employer Identification number. |
