The Agility Center continues to beautify Pennsylvania's highways by providing beautification sites to volunteer beautification sponsor groups (BSGs) through the Pilot Roadside Beautification Project (PRBP). This federally-funded experimental project enabled 15 beautification sites to be installed along PennDOT's right-of-ways in six districts.
Of the 15 sites, six were completed in 2008. The three-fold purpose of the PRBP was met which was to:
a) streamline the delivery process
b) improve the look of local communities
c) secure local volunteers to maintain the beauty of right-of-ways.
Three additional BSGs received Community Greening Awards from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society in partnership with Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. To date, six of the 15 BSGs maintaining these sites have received this award. The purpose of the award is to acknowledge and recognize these groups' efforts across the Commonwealth for greatly enhancing public space. The groups most recently recognized were: the Butler AM Rotary Club, Leetsdale Borough, and Welcome to Indiana.
A “big” thank you to everyone involved in making the Pilot Roadside Beautification Project a great success.
